For most of us, who do not like to tease our brains, the best bread for French toast would be the one that is lightly sweet and the wonderful flavor just lingers on. This article is a compilation of recipes made with bread which are supposedly considered, the best bread.

Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2/3 cup whole milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Directions
  1. Mix all the ingredients in a shallow bowl and whip them up together by using a blender or an egg beater.
  2. Immerse the bread into the egg mixture. Make sure both the sides of the bread are covered.
  3. Melt one and a half tablespoon of butter in a frying pan.
  4. Add the soaked bread and cook until it is golden brown.
  5. Use a spatula to flip the side of the bread.
  6. Serve it hot after sprinkling powdered sugar or maple syrup.
Italian Bread

Ingredients
  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  • 4 eggs
  • One day old Italian bread, 6-8 pcs (thickly sliced)
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • Crushed plain cornflakes
  • Powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons honey
Directions
  1. Spread the bread as a single layer on a baking dish.
  2. Whip together eggs, honey and vanilla.
  3. Pour this mixture over the bread. The bread should be thoroughly coat, leaving the excess mixture to be absorbed.
  4. Cover the baking dish and refrigerate it overnight.
  5. The next day, heat the oven to 400 degrees.
  6. Melt butter and pre-heat the glass baking dish, in the oven.
  7. Spread the cornflakes on the plate and dip both sides of bread into the flakes.
  8. Place in the hot baking dish.
  9. Cooking time depends on the size of the bread.
  10. Check to see if the bottom of the bread has turned dark golden brown. That is an indication that the toast is cooked.
  11. Dress up the plate with fresh melon and drizzle with honey or powdered sugar.
Banana Bread

Ingredients
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 loaf banana bread
  • confectioners' sugar for dusting (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
  1. Whip together the eggs, sweetened condensed milk and vanilla with a fork, in a shallow bowl. Keep this aside.
  2. Take a large skillet and melt butter over medium heat.
  3. Cut banana bread into 4 thick slices.
  4. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture.
  5. Place it in the hot pan.
  6. Cook till both the sides of the bread are golden brown.

  • 1/2 teaspoon rum-flavored extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 can (8 ounce) crushed pineapple, with juice
  • 1 (1 pound) thickly sliced loaf Hawaiian sweet bread
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange zest
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 (3 ounce) can mandarin orange segments, drained
Directions
  1. Whisk together egg yolks, egg white, vanilla, rum extract, orange zest, water and 1 tablespoon honey, in a shallow bowl.
  2. Coat bread slices in egg mixture and then keep it aside.
  3. In a small saucepan, add crushed pineapple, mandarin oranges, honey and maple syrup. Slightly heat it over medium-low heat for 3 minutes.
  4. Heat a frying pan over medium high heat.
  5. Fry bread slices until golden brown on both sides and serve hot with fruit sauce.

Ingredients
  • 8 pieces whole wheat bread
  • 2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups soy milk
  • 2 eggs

  2. Place pieces of bread in this mixture.
  3. Heat a fry pan over medium heat.

  • 3 tablespoons sugar, honey or sweetener of your choice
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions
  1. Take a large casserole and butter it. Then fill with the bread.
  2. Whip together milk, vanilla, cinnamon, salt and sugar into the eggs.
  3. Pour the custard mixture over the bread and toss it lightly.
  4. Refrigerate overnight.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375 F. Toss the bread to give that extra "fluff".
  6. Bake until lightly golden brown. Insert a toothpick to see if it comes out dry.
  7. The cooking time is approximately 45 minutes.
  8. Sprinkle with powdered sugar or maple syrup and serve.

Muscadine Jelly


Muscadine grapes is a variety of grapes that grows mostly in California and they are harvested in August through September. They have a fruity taste without any pronounced muskiness and are either black, pinkish red or bronze in color. They grow in small clusters like berries and are not found in bunches. The muscadine grape is 1 to 1 inches round with a thick skin and it also contains 4 to 5 hard seeds that are oval in shape. As the sugar content of muscadine grapes varies between 16 to 24 percent it is used for producing a variety of food products like jams, jellies and wine.

Muscadine Jelly from Scratch
Ingredients
  • 1 cups muscadine grapes
  • 1 cup sugar
  • cup water
  • Juice of 1 large lemon
  • 1 jam jar
Method

Sterilize the jam jar by rinsing it thoroughly with hot water. Let it dry and keep it aside. Take a large saucepan and add the muscadine along with the water. Let it simmer gently over medium heat for some time. You will find that the muscadine begins to ooze out its juices. With the help of a wooden ladle crush the muscadine until all the juice has been pressed out. Now pour this muscadine juice and pulp through a cheesecloth. Discard the pulp and transfer the muscadine juice back into the saucepan. Allow the juice to boil for some time until it has thickened. Add the sugar into the muscadine juice and stir continuously with the ladle so that the sugar gets dissolved and has a syrup like consistency. Finally add the lemon juice and let the mixture simmer over low heat for 15 to 20 minutes. Skim of any impurities or foam from the top of the jelly. Pour the hot jelly into the jam jar and let it cool completely before refrigerating.

Spicy Muscadine Jelly
Ingredients
  • 4 cups muscadine grapes
  • 5 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 plum fruit, seed removed
  • 2 habanero chillies
Method

With the help of a sharp knife slit the habanero chillies into half and remove seeds. Chop the chillies into small pieces and place them in a saucepan. Add the muscadines, plum, sugar and water into the saucepan and let it simmer in medium heat for some time. Slightly crush the muscadine and boil it on low heat until you get a thick consistency. Remove the mixture from heat and strain to remove all the pulp and seeds. Pour the hot jelly into sterilized jam jars. Refrigerate when the jelly has cooled and enjoy this wonderfully hot and sweet muscadine jelly.

  • 1 packet liquid pectin
  • 7 cups sugar
  • 4 teaspoon lemon juice
Method

In a large pot add the muscadine juice concentrate, lemon juice and pectin and let it come to a boil. Add the sugar and stir continuously with a wooden ladle so that the sugar is completely dissolved. Boil the liquid for some time until you have a thick syrupy consistency. Skim off the scum that is present on top of the jelly. Pour the jelly into sterilized jars and store them in the refrigerator.

Avoid using too much water when you boil the muscadine grapes as this will make the jelly more runny and you will lose the wonderful tart taste. 1 medium onion, diced (you can use more if you like, I do) 
2 tablespoons olive oil 
1 cup brown rice (I use Uncle Ben's) 
1 cup brown lentils 
4 cups water (approximately) 
1/2 teaspoon salt (you can use more or less) 

Directions: 

1 Heat oil in pan. 

2 add onions, and cook on medium high heat until they are brown- stir occasionally. 

3 stir in rice and lentils, mix in with onions. 

4 add water. 

5 add salt, mix contents. 

6 cover and simmer. 

7 This will take over an hour. The water will be absorbed into rice and lentils. Make sure they are soft. Sometimes you may need to add a little more water. Stir occasionally. 

8 Best if served in a shallow bowl, and let sit for 10 minutes or so. Enjoy warm or cold.

7 This will take over an hour. The water will be absorbed into rice and lentils. Make sure they are soft. Sometimes you may need to add a little more water. Stir occasionally.

Ingredients: 

1/2 cup plain yogurt
2 teaspoons lemon zest
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 garlic clove, crushed
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 lbs boneless skinless chicken

Directions: 

1 Mix the yogurt with the seasonings place in a plastic bag with the chicken. Marinate for 2 hours to overnight.

2 Pound chicken in the bag with the marinade to 1/2 thick and grill, saute, skewer or bake until lightly browned and cooked through.

3 Serve with rice or pasta and salad and enjoy!

Pasta Fagioli


INGREDIENTS
¼ cup olive oil
¾ cup pancetta, cut into chunks
1 yellow onion, chopped
½ cup celery, chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped
1 8-ounce can chopped tomatoes
8 cups chicken broth
2 tablespoons tomato paste
3 cups beans (kidney, cece, mixed) 
2 cups ditalini pasta


DIRECTIONS 
Heat olive oil in a heavy pot. Add pancetta, onions, celery, garlic and parsley and tomatoes.
Cook for 8 to 10 minutes.
Add chicken broth, paste, and beans. Bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer for 30-45 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

Serve into bowls and sprinkle cheese and a drizzle of olive oil in each bowl.

Ingredients
  • Onion (chopped) cup
  • Pork Sausage 1 pound
  • Apple (peeled, shredded) 1
  • Sage teaspoon
  • Red pepper and salt as per taste
Method
  • To make the apple sausage patty, mix all the ingredients in a bowl.
  • Once all the ingredients are mixed well, you will be able to make about 12 balls of equal size.
  • You can give the shape of your choice to the patties.
  • Cover these patties and refrigerate for about 30 to 40 minutes.
  • Take a skillet and place the patties on the skillet and cook till their color is no longer pink. You will need approximately 5 to 7 minutes for the same.
  • You can make the patties the previous day itself and refrigerate in a plastic food wrap which will help you save time on the Christmas morning.

  • French Loaf Bread 1 pound
  • Eggs 8

  • Flour 1 cups
  • Milk 1 cup
