Fondant Cake Decorating Designs
Dotted with Polka
This one is a yummy, creamy cake, which has a design resembling polka dots. I am sure by now you have got the supplies handy. To decorate this, cover first with slim layer of butter cream frosting. Then cover the cake with a layer of fondant. Taking a different color from the one which you used to apply the first layer, cut circles of various sizes from that. Further, butter cream can again be used like a glue to stick the fondant circles.
Checker it Up
Another great idea to pucker up your cake is to have something like fondant checkers. Have a basic square cake and cover it again with butter cream frosting. Put a layer of red fondant over it and using black fondant butter cream cut squares out of it. The butter cream once again comes to the rescue to stick these squares. These squares then have to be stuck on the red fondant in a pattern resembling a checkerboard. After this, create design similar to checkers by cutting black and red circles and embossing this design on top of each checker with the help of a cake stamp. This is one of the easiest ideas, isn't it?!
Hall of Fame
This is the perfect one for kids. The base is again a square cake which is frosted lightly with butter cream. Once it is frosted, it has to be refrigerated till it is totally chilled. Make a roll of 3/4th inch layer of black fondant, enough to cover the cake. It must have chilled by the time you are done with the fondant. Therefore, smooth butter cream on top and all sides of the cake. Now place the fondant layer over it, pressing it down and smooth over in top middle direction. Continue to smoothen the fondant over the cake till you get the desired shape. Get rid of the excess by cutting it off. Now you can have stars or even a red carpet made out of rolled red fondant on the cake!
Marshmallows
Another idea is to use a marshmallow fondant. According to some, this smells and tasted good than the traditional one and serves the same purpose as well. It is multipurpose too, it can be folded or cut into flowers, rolled and used to make figurines and elaborate decorations.
Curly Fondant?
To spruce up a cake, curlicues are one of the most popular ideas. To make these fondant curlicues, you need to roll up several colors of fondant into 1/16th inch thick and strips having a width of inch and 6 inch length. Wrap these strips loosely around dowel rods to set for around 10 minutes. Finally, slide the curls off the rods and let them dry overnight on a board, pre-dusted slightly with cornstarch. The last thing you need to is to place the curlicues on top of the cakes or may be around the base.
There are many more such decorating ideas like letters, tiles and so on. A bit of knowledge mixed with creativity and techniques will get you there! If you get short of ideas, the internet is always at your disposal for the same!
