How to Make Omelette


There are different ways of making omelettes. You can make them sweet as well as salty and spicy. The French style of making omelettes is fairly the easiest of the lot. Sometimes, it can be very tricky to make an omelette. However, after a few tries, you will be able to make them very well.

Making an Omelette
Ingredients
  • Eggs - 2
  • Butter - 1 teaspoon
  • Black Pepper - as per taste
  • Water - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - as per taste
Method
This is the basic method of making an omelette. You can make changes to it, as per your tastes. First, let's start with how to make omelette batter. In a medium-sized bowl, break two eggs and mix water, salt and pepper. Beat the eggs with a fork, till the egg white and yolks are mixed well. In a pan, melt the butter, then add the egg batter on the pan. Do not move the eggs, till they set on the bottom. Once you see that the eggs have set, with a spatula push the edges towards the center. With, this the uncooked batter will flow on the pan. Let the egg set well. Repeat the procedure till there is no uncooked batter. Once the edges are set and you can see a shine on the omelette, remove it from the flame.

Making Omelette in Microwave
The ingredients remain the same as the basic omelette. The method will, however differ.

Method
Take a microwave safe bowl and spray some non stick cooking spray. In the bowl, break the eggs and add salt and pepper to it. Now, you will have to cover the bowl with a plastic wrap, but leave one side of the bowl loose. Keep the bowl in the microwave and microwave it for 30 seconds on high. From the loose end, stir the mixture. You will again have to microwave on high for about 30 to 45 seconds. With the help of a fork, turn the omelette upside down. You will need to microwave it for about 15 to 20 seconds again. Your omelette is then ready.

Making Omelette Fluffy
To make a fluffy omelette you will need the same ingredients as mentioned in making an omelette. Let's see the method.

Method
Separate the egg whites from the yolks. Now add water to the yolks and beat the egg yolks with an electric beater, till the color of the yolk changes. In a separate bowl beat the egg whites till you see a soft peak formation. Add the yolk mixture to the egg white mixture and add salt and pepper to it. Then pour the mixture on the pan after melting the butter in it. Let the omelette cook on low heat till you see the puffy light brown bottom of the omelette. You will have to lift the omelette, to judge the color. Then bake the omelette in the oven for 5 to 6 minutes at 180C.

Making Omelette in Oven
The ingredients remain the same as the basic omelette, but the method differs.

Method
Preheat the oven to 375F. In a baking dish, pour the egg mixture and flatten the top of the mixture, so that there are no peaks. Bake it till you see golden brown. Make sure it is set, by testing the omelette with a sharp knife. Remove it from the oven and let is cool. After it cools down, loosen the edge with a knife and turn it upside down. If the bottom looks runny, you will have to keep the omelette in the oven again, for another 10 to 12 minutes.

Making Omelette with Filling
To make an omelette with filling, you can add sausages, ham, cheese, veggies or mushrooms to the omelette batter. Among the vegetables, onion, tomatoes, cilantro are the common vegetables, which are added. Red and green pepper, prawns, meat pieces, etc. can also be added into the batter. When you want to make an omelette with filling, you will have to increase the quantity of eggs by one egg, else there are chances of the omelette not setting well.
