Easy German Chocolate Cake


The word chocolate cake itself is enough to make one's mouth water! Imagine a two-three layered rich chocolate filled cake, covered with coconut and pecan frosting from top to bottom and topped with maraschino cherries, totally awesome, right? That is what a German chocolate cake looks like. Wondering how this rich chocolate cake tastes like? Cake Recipe 1

Ingredients
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 4 egg whites
  • 2 cups sifted cake flour
  • 4 (1 ounce) squares white chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup flaked coconut
  • 1 cup buttermilk
For the frosting,
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • lb unsalted butter
  • 1 cup shredded unsweetened coconut
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup sugar
Procedure

Preheat the oven to 350 F and also anoint and flour 3, 9 inches pan. Take a bowl and sift salt, flour and baking soda in it, set aside. In another large bowl, cream butter and sugar and fluffy and light, beat egg yolk one at a time, beating well after each addition. Also add in the melted chocolate and vanilla, mix well. Add in the flour mixture, alternately with buttermilk, stir until incorporated and then add in coconut along with nuts. In a big glass or a metal mixing bowl, beat the egg whites only until stiff peaks are formed, when done, add of the whites in the flour mixture, mix and quickly add the remaining egg whites and mix until no streaks remain. Divide the batter equally into pans and bake for about 40 to 45 minutes in the preheated oven. Invert the cakes onto wire rack, remove the parchment paper and let cool.

Meanwhile prepare German chocolate cake icing by cooking sugar, butter, evaporated milk and egg yolks in a heated saucepan. Lower the heat and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from the heat and add coconut, vanilla and pecans. Fill a large bowl with ice and place the saucepan in it, stir constantly until the frosting thickens slightly. The cake must have cooled till now, place a layer on a serving dish and spread of the frosting evenly over the cake, making sure that it is covered from all sides. Put a second layer of cake on the top and spread of the frosting, followed by the third layer. See to it that the cake is covered with frosting from all sides. Chill before serving. Ingredients
  • 3 tbs butter or margarine
  • 1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 3 tbs brown sugar
  • 3 eggs plus
  • 1 egg yolk
  • cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 (18.25 oz.) package German chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup water
  • cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • cup flaked coconut
Procedure

Firstly preheat the oven to 350 F. Take a large mixer bowl and mix 3 eggs, water, cake mix, cup condensed milk and oil in it. Beat the mixture on low speed only until the mixture moistens, once it does, beat on high speed for about 2 minutes. Now pour the batter into generously greased and floured 13X9 inch baking pan, bake for about 40-45 minutes. Meanwhile, take a small saucepan and stir, sweetened condensed milk, butter and egg yolk in it. Cook the mixture over medium heat for about 10-15 minutes. Add in coconut, pecans or walnuts, vanilla and spread over warm cake. This is one of the best German chocolate cake recipes.
