Healthy Finger Foods for Babies


When it comes to baby food, it is always better to be careful and prepared. Once your baby shows signs of grabbing a spoon or some food off the plate, you can safely assume that he or she is ready to eat some finger foods. They are easy to make, and easy to eat too. They provide nutrition to the little ones and are also fun. Check out the ideas given below, and you can decide which ones you can start off with for your child.

Fruits
Banana pieces cut up into slices or dices.
Kiwi fruit, diced into small pieces.
Boiled or baked apple, with a little powdered sugar or some salt sprinkled on it.
Make cubes out of melon, and sprinkle some sugar on them.
Strawberries, cut or diced, and with a little cream or milk.
Peaches, ripe and soft ones, diced or cut into small pieces.
Avocado, diced or cubed.
Blueberries can be squished and served with a little cream.
Soft dry fruits like raisins, dried peaches, etc.
Cherries, after the seeds have been removed.
Seedless grapes, washed and cleaned well.
Plums, after removing the seeds.
Cubes of watermelon
Mango, sliced or diced.
Another option: Mix four or five of the above-mentioned fruits in a bowl, as a fruit salad.


Vegetables
Sweet potato, cooked well and cut into small chunks.
Peas, boiled, and sprinkled with some salt for taste.
Green beans, boiled, and with a little salt to taste.
Baby carrot sticks. These can be given without boiling if they are soft, or you can boil them to soften them.
Broccoli, boiled and diced.
Squash, boiled or baked works best for babies.
Butternut, bake it and serve it.
Boiled kidney beans with a little salt for flavor, served with the broth.
Cucumber, the all time favorite finger food for kids! Cut it into different amusing shapes and feed it to your child.
Spinach, boiled, and balled up, with a little salt and seasoning.
Zucchini, cut into rings or blocks.
Asparagus, heads, or spears, boiled or raw, whatever the child prefers.
Beet, boiled or raw (if soft).
Another option: Mix some boiled veggies in a stew and serve to your child, to check which ones he likes best.


Others
Soft whole grain muffins.
Whole wheat bread.
Soft baby crackers.
Baby biscuits, with milk.
Tofu sticks.
Cheese sticks.
Shallow fried potato wedges.
Pasta in different shapes.
Steamed foods like rice cakes.
Breakfast cereal, dry and single pieces.
Chicken or fish fingers (without bones or thorns)
Egg yolk slathered on bread, and fried in pan, like a mini French toast.
Bread, slightly toasted.
Egg yolk, scrambled, and with a little salt for flavor.

Take your pick from the foods mentioned above and see what your baby enjoys the most. They are healthy and will keep your little one happy as well.
