How to Make Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies


Peanut butter blossoms are also called peanut butter kiss cookies and Hershey kiss cookies. The cookie is made out of peanut butter which is a smooth paste made from roasted peanuts. This gives the peanut butter kiss cookies its unique taste and texture. The Hershey's kisses are pressed on center of the peanut butter cookies, immediately after baking, while it is still hot. They are a great hit among kids as well as adults. Peanut butter blossoms are one of the best peanut butter cookies.

Peanut Butter Blossoms Recipe

Baking peanut butter kisses are quite easy as they require very less ingredients and can be prepared quickly.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 100 g butter
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • cup sugar
  • teaspoon salt
  • cup smooth peanut butter
  • cup demerara sugar
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 5 dozen Hershey's kisses
Method

Using an electric mixer, whisk together the butter, sugar, peanut butter and demerara sugar until it is thoroughly combined. Now add the egg and milk and whisk again. Slit the vanilla bean half length wise and scrap out its inner gooey portion and add to the egg and butter mixture.

Sift the all-purpose flour with the baking soda and salt and gradually add this to the electric mixer, mixing thoroughly. Add a bit more milk if you find the mixture too dry. Remove the mixture into a chopping board and work the dough with your hand until you get a smooth consistency. Refrigerate the cookie dough for about and hour to let it set. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and grease it lightly with some butter. Preheat the oven to 350 C. Remove the cookie dough from the refrigerator and shape it into 1 inch small balls. Flatten the balls with the heels of your hand and place them about 2 inches apart in the baking tray. Bake them for about 6 to 7 minutes until the peanut butter blossoms are brown and cooked through. Remove from the oven immediately after it is done and lightly press a Hershey's kisses into the center of each cookie. Return them to the oven and bake for another 1 to 2 minutes.

Low Fat Peanut Butter Blossoms

This low-fat recipe calls for a chunky peanut butter that has flaxseed oil added to it to make it more nutritious. We also use Hershey's dark chocolate kisses instead of milk chocolate to get the benefits of dark chocolate. Using whole wheat pastry flour instead of regular all-purpose flour increase the fiber content of peanut butter kisses.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup chunky peanut butter
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup whole wheat pastry flour
  • 24 Hershey's dark chocolate kisses
Method

In an electric mixer, beat the peanut butter, sugar and egg until it is light and fluffy. Gradually sift in the whole wheat flour and whisk all the ingredients together until it is thoroughly combined. Pull the mixture out on a clean chopping board and knead it for 2 to 3 minutes. Put this cookie dough in a small bowl and cover with a cling film. Refrigerate the cookie dough for about an hour and then roll the dough with your hands to make small balls. Preheat the oven to 350 C and grease a baking tray with vegetable oil. Place the cookies on the greased baking tray and bake in the oven for 7 to 8 minutes till they are browned. Remove tray from oven, once the cookies are done and immediately press a Hershey's dark chocolate kiss on each cookie. Allow the peanut butter blossom cookies to cool by placing them in a wire rack.

Peanut butter blossoms calories is about 100 for 1 cookie. These cookies are visually appealing and taste good too. You can bake a batch of peanut butter kisses to gift to your friends and neighbors during the holiday season.
