Whole Wheat Rolls

Simple Whole Wheat Rolls Recipe

Ingredients
  • 4 cups whole wheat flour
  • 3 packages active dry yeast
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 3 eggs
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour

How to Make

Combine the flour with the yeast in a large mixing bowl and stir it well. Heat a heavy saucepan and pour in the milk and add sugar, salt and the butter to it. Set it to low heat settings and keep stirring the ingredients frequently till the temperature reaches 120 degree Fahrenheit. Now add in the yeast and flour mixture and beat in the eggs as well. Mix well and add the remaining flour to it one spoon at a time. Do this until the dough is to stiff to stir with the spoon. Now place this dough on a work surface on which some dough has been sprinkled. Add some more flour to the dough and knead till it is smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover and let it rise for around two hours. Divide the rolls into balls and place it on greased sheets. Cover with a soft cloth or the kitchen towel and let it rest for around half an hour. Now place the rolls in a preheated oven of around 400 degree F and bake for twenty minutes or till it is golden brown in color. Remove from the oven and brush the wheat bread with melted butter. Store it for around two to three days to cool.

Honey Whole Wheat Rolls Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 packages active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • Additional melted butter
How to Make

Dissolve the yeast in a large bowl of warm water. Add the honey, eggs, flour, butter and the oats. Add a teaspoon of salt and mix till it is smooth. Now add the remaining all-purpose flour and knead it to form a soft, smooth dough for about eight minutes or so. Place the dough in a greased bowl and turn once to grease the top part of the dough. Cover it with a cheesecloth and place it in a warm place to let it rise for around an hour or so. Punch the dough down and form fifteen dough balls. Place it in a greased pan and cover it. Let it rise for forty five minutes before you place it in a preheated oven of around 375 F for 20 minutes or until golden brown and puffed. Remove it and brush with butter.

Cheese Whole Wheat Rolls Recipe

Ingredients
  • 4 c. whole wheat flour
  • 2 packages of active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 c. cream style cottage cheese
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1/4 c. packed brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 2 tsp. salt
How to Make

Stir in the flour, yeast and soda in a large bowl. Now in a saucepan heat the water and add sugar, butter and salt. Take off heat and add the cheese and the beaten eggs. Beat the mixture using an electric mixer for around half a minute at low speed and then for three minutes at high speed. Now stir in the remaining all-purpose flour and make a stiff dough. Place it on a floured surface and knead the dough till it is smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover and let it rise to around double for an hour or so. Now punch down the dough and shape it into balls, Place it in muffin pans and let it rise. After half an hour place it in an oven and bake at 375 degree F for fifteen minutes or so.
